Frank Lampard says Everton defender Nathan Patterson needs to be patient

Frank Lampard has once again made it very clear that Everton defender Nathan Patterson needs to be patient.

The youngster joined in the January transfer window from Rangers, but he is yet to feature in the Premier League.

Signed by Rafa Benitez, he has been ignored by Lampard who gave him only 45 minutes of action in the FA Cup.

Lampard said, as quoted by Liverpool Echo: “He’s one for the now and one for the future. He just has to stay patient keep working and I’ll find the right time for him to come into the team.”

Problems

One of the reasons why Patterson left Rangers was he was getting frustrated with the lack of opportunities at Ibrox.

James Tavernier is the first choice right-back at Rangers, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst found it hard to drop his skipper.

Having said that, he was still getting a lot of games. His performances earned him a place in the Scotland national team as well.

When Everton came up with an offer, Rangers simply couldn’t refuse, as it was a win-win situation for them.

Patterson probably was given assurance by Benitez that he would be playing regularly as a right-back. However, the Spaniard was sacked after a poor run of results.

The young right-back is now stuck in limbo. Despite the fact that Seamus Coleman has been shocking in recent games, Lampard cannot drop him and give a chance to Patterson.

His lack of games could cost him a place in the Scotland senior side. However, the latest comments from Lampard suggest the youngster is very much in his plans.
