Donny van de Beek sends message after missing Everton win v Newcastle

Donny van de Beek shared his reaction on Instagram after Everton won 1-0 against Newcastle on Thursday (17 March) at Goodison Park in the Premier League.

The Dutchman missed the game through illness, but he was obviously keeping track of the match at home.

Alex Iwobi scored in the 99th minute for the Toffees as Frank Lampard secured only his second win in the league since taking charge of the club.

The Dutch midfielder wrote on the Instagram story: “What a game, Everton.”

The win takes the pressure off Frank Lampard for the moment.

The Toffees are still sitting 17th in the league, but they have taken a three-point lead from the bottom three, having played two games less.

Van de Beek has been brilliant since joining the Toffees on loan from Manchester United in January, but there is a feeling that Lampard hasn’t been able to get the best out of him.

He was simply outstanding against Leeds, and Lampard must find a proper system where he can integrate his key players properly.

With Allan likely to be out for the next few games after picking up a red card, Van de Beek can partner Abdoulaye Doucoure in the middle.

However, the two-man midfield hasn’t been effective, as we have seen Everton have struggled to keep possession.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin also returned to action on Thursday and played his part in the build-up to the winning goal.

The Toffees will face Crystal Palace next in the FA Cup on Sunday. Van de Beek is cup-tied, so won’t take any part.
