Frank Lampard: Everton midfielder Tyler Onyango undergoes hernia operation

Everton are set to be without the services of midfielder Tyler Onyango for their FA Cup clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Frank Lampard told the press on Friday that the 19-year-old had undergone a minor operation on his hernia.

This means that he will not be able to make the squad, with Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek also ruled out.

He told the Liverpool Echo, “He (Onyango) has had a small operation on his hernia.”

Midfield woes?

Onyango is a player known for his “exquisite” positioning so he would certainly have been among the few to be given a chance against Palace.

While Premier League survival is more important than going on a cup run, Lampard would have liked to have a decent squad to pick from.

Alli and van de Beek cannot play because they’re already cup tied this season, which means the Toffees automatically are two options short.

Tom Davies and Fabian Delph are two other midfielders who are ruled out while Allan is serving a three-match ban for a red he received against Newcastle.

With only Abdoulaye Doucoure and Andre Gomes their recognised central midfielders, the Toffees have woes in that part of the pitch.

This could mean Lampard turning to the academy to make up the numbers and we could even see him spring a few surprises.

Hopefully, playing here does not exert the players as they will be needed for the business end of the Premier League season.
