‘Capitulated’ – Karen Carney destroys Everton for Crystal Palace display

BBC pundit Karen Carney has savaged Everton as they “capitulated” against Crystal Palace in the first half of their FA Cup quarter final encounter.

Goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Marc Guehi saw the Eagles take control of the game at Selhurst Park despite the Toffees starting brightly.

Carney questioned the Blues’ mentality whilst urging manager Frank Lampard to make imminent changes.

She wrote on BBC Sport’s live coverage of the game: “It took Palace a bit of time to get into the game and get the young players hurting people.

“Everton are just walking in and all their heads are down, they could come back out and score and get back into the game but I don’t see that at the moment.

“They started well and then capitulated with gaps all over the pitch. I think Frank Lampard has got to make some changes and not wait, bring them on after half-time.”

No surprise

Last week’s late winner against Newcastle in the Premier League looked to be a new chapter for this squad.

They fought right until the end of the match and showed tremendous character to allow Alex Iwobi to score his last-gasp winner.

The Goodison Park crowd definitely had a huge impact on the players with their unwavering support which only highlights a glaringly obvious issue with today’s (March 20) result, away form.

The Blues just can’t buy a win away from home, in any competition it seems and that is something that urgently needs to change before it is too late.

The real concern is relegation from the Premier League, but the Toffees had a brilliant chance of reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup and giving their fanbase a much-need morale boost.

Lampard could have established himself as a Blues great already had he taken the team to Wembley and maybe even won the competition but the expected yo-yo like display from the players has killed him.
