Karen Carney reacts to ‘shocking’ Everton defending v Crystal Palace
Everton went 2-0 down in the first half against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup tie, and Karen Carney has described the defending as “shocking”.
After making a strong start in the first half, the Toffees simply lost their way and conceded two quick goals in the first half.
Marc Guehi opened the scoring for Palace before Jean-Philippe Mateta added another.

Carney shared her reaction to the second goal, as relayed on the BBC Sport website: “What a goal! Shocking defending from Everton but let’s talk about Crystal Palace.
“Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze, all interchanging. Zaha cuts it back brilliantly, finds Jean-Philippe Mateta and he keeps it low and powerful and it’s just the centre of the goal but because it’s low the keeper can’t get there. That’s a really difficult shot for the goalkeeper to get to.”
Shift in momentum
The Toffees started the game brightly and they had chances to take an early lead.
However, the injury to Andros Townsend shifted the momentum completely. The Eagles got themselves organised and they hit back strongly with quick goals.
It seems so frustrating to watch Everton at the moment, as they seem to have no plan B at all, especially after conceding the first half.

Wilfried Zaha was instrumental behind the goal as he cuts back in from the middle and Mateta only glided past Jordan Pickford.
It has taken the visitors to get into the game but they have dominated after taking the lead.
It is really hard to believe that the Toffees players have lost the energy and confidence in themselves completely. All their heads are down as they head into the break.
Frank Lampard hasn’t got his tactics spot on away from home at all this season, and here’s another example.
In other Everton news, Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has apologised to Everton with regard to his comments about them due to what’s been going on at Chelsea.
