Glen Johnson names Everton midfielder Dele Alli as ‘worst’ signing of the season
Everton midfielder Dele Alli has been named as the ‘worst’ signing of the season by Sky Sports pundit Glen Johnson, while speaking to BettingOdds.com.
Dele moved to Goodison Park on a free transfer from Tottenham on deadline day in January, with it emerging later that the deal could reach a fee of up to £40m depending on appearances and clauses.
But the former England international has yet to start a game for the Toffees as they battle relegation and while Johnson admits it’s harsh to say he’s the worse, he thinks the deal has just proved to be ‘odd’ all-round.

“The worst one, which is a bit harsh, I’d say Dele Alli to Everton,” he said.
“It was an odd move. At first I thought it was a good signing as I thought it was a free transfer but since then we’ve all learned that it could potentially cost Everton up to £40 million.
“I think Dele is a good player, but are you telling me he can’t get into this Everton side? I just don’t understand it. He went there to play and he’s not playing so it just looks odd from the outside.”
Hard to argue
While he’s done nothing wrong since putting on a blue shirt in January, he’s done nothing right either because he’s barely worn the shirt at all and that makes it a bad deal.
Dele is yet to get a start in the Premier League under Frank Lampard despite being brought in by the new manager as a major signing and the team struggling.

Everton have just two league wins since the duo arrived at the club on deadline day and despite a string or horror shows, the manager hasn’t called upon the midfielder to change things.
He has only been on the pitch for 170 minutes and has shown little to prove that the move has re-energised him, but he deserves a chance from the start to be able to at least try that.
Everton need points and they clearly need to change things to change their fortunes and for all we know right now, Dele could be the difference between safety and relegation.
