Everton to be without Andros Townsend for rest of season with ACL injury
Everton have been dealt a major injury blow today (23 March) as the club announced that Andros Townsend would miss the rest of the season.
The 30-year-old, who signed for the Toffees on a free transfer last summer from Crystal Palace, was forced off against his former side at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
It looked to be a nasty blow for the Englishman and it has been confirmed today that he has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury that has ended his season prematurely.
The club announced that he would undergo surgery next week before beginning his rehabilitation at Finch Farm in an attempt to be fit for the start of the 2022-23 season.
Long time out
We already know that he has played his last game of this season but it wouldn’t be a big surprise if he missed the start of next season too.
An anterior cruciate ligament injury is one of the worst you can get as a footballer and it often leaves the player sidelined for months on end, depending on the severity of the injury.

If Townsend’s is towards the worse end of the scale, then Frank Lampard may have to plan the start of his next campaign without the former England international.
He’ll be relying on the likes of Demarai Gray and Anthony Gordon to stay fit and firing to provide the crucial quality in attacking areas.
We can only hope that Townsend returns to full fitness quickly but we can’t afford him to be rushed back at 30 years of age either.
In other Everton news, Andy Townsend wants to see two Toffees players out of the team altogether and time afforded to the manager too.
