Jaap Stam suggests whether Van de Beek should join Everton permanently
Jaap Stam has made it clear that Everton midfielder Donny van de Beek needs to play regularly to get into the Holland national team.
Van de Beek struggled to get into the first team at Old Trafford and joined the Toffees on loan in January.
The 25-year-old has made a good start so far, and he will be looking to end the season strongly, although the Toffees are struggling badly.

Everton do not have an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season, but they could try to bring him to Goodison Park, provided they avoid the drop.
When Stam was asked about whether Van de Beek should join Everton permanently, he said to Bettingexpert: “Donny needs to play if he wants to have a chance (at the World Cup squad) and wants to improve himself and become a better player.
“He needs to get playing and it’s always nice to go to one of the biggest clubs in England, but maybe sometimes you need to make that choice to go to a different club and then maybe play for a year or two years somewhere else so that you get used to everything, to get used to playing in a Premier League. It’s a totally different way of playing than in Holland.
“The physicality of it, the pace of it. Different players, better players that you need to face and then after that, also still make that step to a big club in England or maybe in Europe.”
Spot on
Van de Beek is a fantastic player and he deserves to play at a top Champions League club.
However, spending another season mostly on the bench won’t help his career. He is approaching the peak phase of his career, and he should be aiming to play regularly.
Everton can certainly offer him that in the summer. Van de Beek probably would want to give it a try at Old Trafford, but he has been given a strong message by Stam.

The Dutchman was outstanding against Leeds in his first Premier League start. While he maintained a decent performance after that, Everton’s poor form meant, his efforts have gone unnoticed.
Van de Beek was very poor against Tottenham Hotspur while he wasn’t impressive against Southampton as well. Basically, Everton have struggled away from home where the midfield has been completely over-run.
Frank Lampard needs to find a system to integrate three midfielders in the side after the international break. A big summer waits for Van de Beek.
