Boost for Lampard as Fabian Delph returns to Everton training

Frank Lampard has received a timely boost as Fabian Delph has returned to Everton training today (25 March).

The Toffees will face West Ham in their next Premier League game after the international break, and they should be aiming to get a positive result.

Delph’s career at Goodison Park has been blighted by injuries, but he has a chance to make a big impact for the rest of the season.

The 32-year-old has once again struggled for fitness this season, managing only six appearances for the club in the Premier League.

The Toffees have a poor away record this season, but Lampard desperately needs points on the board. He needs to get his formation and system right, and Delph can provide that.

So far, Lampard has used Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure in midfield, and at times Andre Gomes, and the midfield got completely overrun.

Lampard needs someone who will add steel and grit in the middle, allowing Doucoure to move slightly up the pitch. Both Delph and Allan are not mobile players, but away from home, the midfield pivot can add stability in the middle of the park.

On top of that, Donny van de Beek is also set to return shortly. He missed the last Premier League game through illness, while he didn’t feature in the FA Cup defeat as well.

So, he will be fresh and Lampard must find a system to fit him. The return of Delph has given him a lot of options, and it’s a timely boost for the Toffees boss.
