Jordan Pickford England place safe even if Everton relegated – Faye Carruthers
Jordan Pickford could have to leave Everton to secure his England place for the World Cup if they’re relegated, according to Faye Carruthers.
The Toffees goalkeeper has been the number one for his country for several years, leading the defence to a World Cup semi-final in 2018 and the Euro 2020 final also.
But with Pickford part of an Everton side just three points above the relegation zone with 12 games to go, talkSPORT journalist Carruthers shared the situation on the goalkeeper position heading towards the World Cup in November.

“It could do potentially [cost him his place], but I think he’s got enough credit in the bank already if that makes sense,” she said.
“You would think a player like Jordan Pickford obviously depending on what his contract situation is at Everton, if they were to relegated, he’s a Premier League goalkeeper. He could have a move somewhere else.”
Inevitable
If Everton do get relegated this season and are playing Championship football next season, it’s essentially a given that Pickford won’t be there.
The 28-year-old is currently under contract until 2024 but because of his status as the England number one, interest is sure to be high from a number of clubs if he becomes available.

Fans won’t be happy to see him go, having stood by him for so long across several errors and criticism from the media, but everyone understands the situation and it won’t be a shock to see him elsewhere.
That should cement his place in the England side, because he’s never let Southgate down for the national team and even for Everton he hasn’t been bad this season – just part of a bad team.
With a mid-season World Cup it makes the summer transfer window much more interesting with regular football all the more important for players, so expect plenty of movement.
