Everton defender Yerry Mina to step up recovery this week – report

Everton are set to welcome Yerry Mina back to training this week at Finch Farm following a quadriceps injury, according to Ben Dinnery.

The Colombian international suffered the injury in Frank Lampard’s first Premier League game as manager, after scoring in the previous game with a towering header.

He’s been missing ever since but as the Toffees look to battle against relegation following the international break, they’re boosted by news that the 27-year-old is on the road to recovery.

According to a tweet from Dinnery, a football injuries expert, Mina is expected to step up his recovery this week at Finch Farm and undergo some light training.

It’s unlikely that the former Barcelona man will be available to play in the next few weeks, but Everton are hopeful that he could return before the end of the season.

Boost

Everton have been really poor defensively under Frank Lampard, especially away from home and the absence of Mina certainly hasn’t helped.

At 6ft 5′, Mina is a physical specimen and his presence in defensive situations has always been a big plus for the Toffees while his ability to build from the back certainly helps the way the team play too.

Everton

Since his injury the form of Michael Keane has dropped off a cliff and Mason Holgate has struggled to play to a consistently high level which has seen the team struggle.

With incredibly tough fixtures to come during the run-in, but a three point cushion above the three teams below them, the sooner Mina can get fit and play again the better.

They can’t rush him though, because if they end up losing him for longer it would simply be a bigger problem than necessary but seeing him on the right track is certainly good news for fans.
