Roy Keane praises Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for England performance
Roy Keane has given Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford some rare praise after his performance in England’s win over Switzerland.
The 28-year-old started in goal and made a string of top saves as the Three Lions came from behind to win 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
Keane, who was appearing as a pundit on ITV Sport, admitted that he’s not Pickford’s ‘biggest fan’ but praised him for one save and said he understands why Southgate has stuck by him.

“Brilliant save, but there was a lack of concentration,” he said.
“At the set-piece they also hit the post. I wouldn’t say I’m his [Pickford’s] biggest fan, but it’s a brilliant save.
“Gareth [Southgate] has got great faith in him, that’s the most important person. He picks them and looks at them over the last few years. He’s got a lot of credit in the bank and Gareth feels he’s never let him down.”
Shock
It’s been a while since Keane went against his own opinions in public, but Pickford’s performances for England warrant it.
With 20 clean sheets from 43 caps plus a World Cup semi-final and European Championship final during his international career, it’s no wonder that he’s the number one for England.

His club form has been questionable over the years and that’s a fair comment, but for England his level has been unquestionable and he deserves his place.
Pickford’s performance against Switzerland showed that he’s still capable and is still England’s best goalkeeper despite Everton’s poor league position this season.
If the club could find a way to give Pickford the same quality and confidence that he has at international level then they’ll be in a much better place, so fingers crossed they can find that next season while they’re still in the Premier League.
