Journalist suggests ‘issues in the background’ hamper Dele Alli at Everton
Everton have not seen anywhere the best of Dele Alli since he joined from Tottenham Hotspur on transfer deadline day in January.
The 25-year-old is yet to start a game for the Toffees having been brought in on an initial free transfer although the club will have to pay a substantial fee when the summer rolls around.
Despite Everton’s relegation worries, he has done nothing in his limited game time to prove that he would be worthy of a start and the fans have quickly lost patience.

Journalist Dean Jones believes that there are off-field issues that have impacted his start to life on Merseyside and that his focus needs to readjust.
“There’s some talk about issues in the background for Dele that need to be addressed, and maybe he needs to get his focus back to matters on the pitch and proving himself there,” Jones said to Give Me Sport.
Complete refresh
The move from Tottenham to Everton was supposed to be the reset that Alli needed for him to find his best form again with the 2022 World Cup on the horizon.
The problem has been that those same pressures and media talk hasn’t gone away because he has stayed in the Premier League.

He still appears to be weighed down by what is being said about him in the media and that has shackled him to being a shell of his former self.
What Alli really needed in January was a move abroad where he could be out of the spotlight on the English media even if it was only for six months to refresh his mind and his love for the game.
That would have meant he’d never sign for Everton but the way he’s been playing at Goodison Park so far, not having him wouldn’t be much of a loss at all.
