Darren Bent shares below-£60m price for West Ham to sign Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin should leave Everton for West Ham and should cost between £35million and £40million, according to Darren Bent.

The struggling Toffees striker has been mooted as a transfer target for various Premier League rivals for some time, and could be a way for the club to recoup some of the £120.9million losses announced in the most recent club accounts this week.

Former Charlton and Tottenham striker Bent sees the Hammers, who have long-needed a new front man, as the ideal destination but says “no-one” will pay the £60million price that was quoted in January (Mirror).

Speaking on talkSPORT Bent said: “I think for Calvert-Lewin, West Ham. They need another centre forward. And they cross the ball.”

Co-host Andy Goldstein was in full agreement, saying: “That’s a great call. That would be fantastic. Such a great call. How much would he go for?”

Bent replied: “I don’t know, if it’s £60million no-one’s buying him for that.”

Goldstein agreed it was far too much and suggested 45 or 40 as potential numbers on the basis of his age and international pedigree.

Bent thought even that was high and reacted with: “Wow! £35-40million then.”

Rough campaign

It hasn’t been an enjoyable season for the England forward, with a lack of fitness and form seeing him go goalless since the opening three matches of the campaign.

Plenty of hopes have been pinned on him for the run in now that he has returned after injury.

But so far it has not worked for him as he is struggled to get up to full speed.

An intensive period of training during the international break is potentially the last opportunity to use a springboard for the crucial remaining fixtures.

Without an upturn in form Frank Lampard may have to turn his attentions elsewhere in the squad as he looks to avoid relegation.

League rivals may be hoping to pick up Calvert-Lewin on the cheap, but the Toffees surely will require a big number to let him go if they stay up.

It will become a buyer’s market if they go down though, so points on the board are vital in the next few weeks.

In other Everton news, a breakthrough talent is waiting in the wings to fill the striker’s space and the manager needs to give him a chance.
