Everton defender Mason Holgate makes embarrassing relegation call
Everton defender Mason Holgate has made a bizarre claim amid the Toffees’ relegation dogfight.
The 25-year-old suggested that if Everton wins their games in hand they will look back on the season and think they were “never really in danger”.
The Blues travel to the London Stadium on Sunday [April 3] to face West Ham where they will hope to extend their slender two-point gap on 17th placed Watford.

He told Everton: “I have complete confidence in what we are doing as a club and am sure the time will come with this manager when we are winning games and moving in an upwards direction.
“In the immediate future, however, the complete focus – individually and collectively – is on earning the points to pull us clear of trouble.
“We can look at the table and see the likely impact of winning our games in hand and getting on a positive run: come to the end of the season, the perception would be that we were never really in danger.
“There is the quality in the team to turn that scenario into reality. If we are all flying, there is nothing to fear from anybody.”
Disgrace
Has Holgate lost his mind? You can see what he is getting at with his comments claiming that Everton was never really in danger, but they have been bang in trouble on several occasions this season and they still are with one result leaving them in the drop zone.

Everton will be watching Watford very closely and praying they continue to struggle to allow them to extend the gap on them.
What would happen if the Blues don’t go on and win their games in hand? Unfortunately, that is a scarily real reality with the extremely tough run of fixtures Frank Lampard’s side face.
A club the size of Everton shouldn’t even be anywhere near the relegation zone so to take any sort of positive from a relegation scrap is embarrassing.
It shows just how far the Blues have dropped in recent years and the shambolic attitudes of these players.
In other Everton news, Lampard insists Everton ace Dele Alli still has “a lot to prove”.
