View: Dominic Calvert-Lewin fighting for Premier League future as Arsenal reportedly cool interest

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is fighting for his own Premier League future, never mind the club’s, after The Telegraph reported Arsenal are no longer interested in him.

The England striker has missed large chunks of the season and been restricted to just three goals so far, with the Toffees sitting just one point above the relegation zone.

With the club struggling to secure their Premier League status it had been expected that several clubs, including Arsenal, would make a move for the striker in the summer should they get relegated.

However after struggling since returning from injury and with the blues likely to push for a mighty sum for their star man, Arsenal have now done a U-turn and pulled out of the race.

It’s believed that the 25-year-old will still attract interest and offers, but they won’t come from the red half of north London if they do arrive.

Nightmare

For Calvert-Lewin, that is a nightmare scenario. Of all the players currently in the squad at Goodison Park, you could make a solid argument that he’s in the top three that would continue in the top flight no matter what.

But after a string of injury problems and poor form, merged with the Blues’ lofty price tag for him he may well find himself playing in the Championship next year with the club if he doesn’t buck up his ideas.

He’s largely been let off by fans for his performances, because there is great pressure on his shoulders to deliver and he has missed so long.

But he has now been fit for a while and is barely getting on the end of opportunities, never mind finding the back of the net for a team desperate for someone to lead them out of this mess.

He is that man to the fans, the leader and the one who they can put their hopes on.

If the fans have misplaced their trust, then why would another Premier League club want him knowing they can’t rely on him when the going gets tough?

There are nine games remaining for him to really step up and show that he is the main man for a reason. If not, he could be kissing his top flight career goodbye.
