Everton could sell 10 or more players in summer if relegated

Everton may be forced to sell as many as 10 players in the summer if they are to suffer relegation from the Premier League, according to the Express.

The Toffees were reeled right back into the mess on Wednesday evening as Burnley came from behind to beat them 3-2 at Turf Moor, leaving the Clarets just one point behind the Merseyside club on the brink of the drop zone.

Dropping into the second tier would be a financial nightmare for Farhad Moshiri who has already pumped more than £500million into transfer fees alone since he arrived at Goodison Park.

It’s because of this that the Express report that the majority of the Everton squad are potentially on the chopping block when the summer rolls around.

Jonjoe Kenny, Michael Keane, Fabian Delph, Andre Gomes, Tom Davies, Dele Alli, Salomon Rondon and Cenk Tosun were all named as potential exits with Donny van de Beek on course for a return to Manchester United when his loan expires.

Clear the lot out

If the Toffees do go down for the first time in 68 years, not a single player should remain at the club.

There is a desperate need for an entire rebuild of the football club from the top to the bottom but the easiest place to start is with the players on the pitch.

With the possible exceptions of Jordan Pickford, Richarlison and Anthony Gordon, there has been very little evidence that any of Frank Lampard’s squad actually wants to stay up.

It’s almost like they are content to be relegated because they are still getting paid their sizeable wages each week regardless of what they do on game day.

There will be serious questions surrounding Lampard’s future too having steered this sinking ship even further into the deep ocean rather than towards the shore as the owners were hoping for when they brought him in at the end of January.
