Mark Lawrenson predicts scoreline of Everton showdown v Manchester United
Mark Lawrenson has backed Everton to earn an unexpected point against Manchester United when they meet at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Everton’s form is rotten with Frank Lampard picking up just two wins in his nine Premier League games in charge.
On Wednesday night, the Blues let slip of a lead to lose 3-2 to relegation rivals Burnley and they go into their showdown with United just one point clear of the bottom three.

However, Lawrenson has backed the Toffees to earn a surprise draw against Man United, predicting the game to end 1-1.
“I watched Everton in their defeat against Burnley on Wednesday and there is nothing wrong with their effort and attitude. They work extremely hard and you can see what it means to them,” Lawrenson wrote on the BBC Sport website.
“Unfortunately for the Toffees, they are lacking quality when it matters – at both ends.
“You can’t just blame their problems on their defence, although they are obviously struggling massively there. They had chances to score more goals when they were 2-1 up against Burnley, but they didn’t take them and paid the price.
“There is still hope for Everton, though, starting on Saturday. Their home form means they will be more confident at Goodison and Manchester United are still horribly inconsistent.
“Everton fans know relegation is a really serious prospect and I think they will raise the roof. It almost got their side something against Manchester City a few weeks back, when they played extremely well, and it will really help them this time too.
“United are the better team, but Everton have to treat this like a cup tie and throw everything at it.
“Trying to keep 11 men on the pitch would be handy, because a lack of discipline has been another of the Toffees’ recent problems, but they will have to be feisty to get anything from the game.”

Hopeful
We really don’t see anything but a Man United win in this game.
Call us pessimistic and beaten already but it’s hard to back this Everton side when the players don’t back themselves.
Lampard has inherited a squad of players that have the backbone of a slug. They’re cowards, charlatans, posers, phonies.
We can only really say Anthony Gordon doesn’t fit into that bracket with the young attacker absolutely running himself into the ground on Wednesday night at Turf Moor despite the loss.
If we had 11 Anthony Gordons, we’d be nowhere near the relegation zone but instead, we have a bunch of over-paid jokers who aren’t fit to wear the shirt (or skirt).
Man United haven’t been great this season but we really doubt that Everton will pick up anything against the Champions League-chasing side this weekend.
And to make matters worse, Burnley will probably beat Norwich.
