Manchester United and Ajax stars react as Everton’s Donny van de Beek shares big news

Stars from across the world of football queued up to congratulate Everton midfielder Donny van de Beek after he posted news of his new baby on social media.

The Dutchman posted on his Instagram page yesterday (10 April) photos of his daughter Lomee, born the day before, along with the caption: “Welcome to the world Lomée van de Beek – 09/04/2022 – proud of you Estelle Bergkamp.”

Lomee’s mother is the daughter of Arsenal legend Dennis, and the post saw reactions from across the Premier League, as well as Ajax and Netherlands stars past and present, yet there were no comments from any of his current teammates.

Jadon Sancho was among those from van de Beek’s parent club Manchester United which included David De Gea, Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard, posting “Congratulations bro” in the comments.

Ian Wright posted a string of love hearts while Manchester City’s Ruben Dias was one Premier League rival to congratulate the 24-year-old.

Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech was one of many former Ajax teammates to comment, posting emojis of faces with hearts for eyes, while others included Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong and Sergino Dest, and Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez.

Netherlands stars included Steven Bergwijn, Wesley Sneijder, Patrick Kluivert, Denzel Dumfries and the baby’s grandfather.

Good news

The January loan signing started well at Goodison Park but his fortunes have been sinking in recent weeks.

After featuring in all of the Toffees’ first six league games under Frank Lampard he was dropped for the Newcastle win (17 March), then picked up an injury in the warm ups on his planned return against West Ham (3 April).

With the return of Fabian Delph instrumental in the win against van de Beek’s parent club from Old Trafford, he may be facing a struggle to get back in the side.

Everton

It is hard to know what is behind the lack of congratulations from his Goodison teammates, unless they have all done it in person at Finch Farm.

But with so much of players’ lives documented on social media it gives an odd picture of the dynamic within Frank Lampard’s squad.

With his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag looking set to take over in Manchester, the midfielder is now more likely to return at the end of his loan spell than complete a permanent transfer.

Even if the Instagram comments are simply a coincidence he probably won’t be around long-term.
