Everton secure agreement with Laing O’Rourke to complete stadium construction
Everton have signed an agreement with Laing O’Rourke today (Wednesday) to complete the construction work of the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, the club have confirmed on their official website.
As per the deal, Laing O’Rourke will oversee the construction of the 52,888 capacity stadium and will provide the club with greater certainty as to the cost of the remaining stages of the project.
This has come at a “crucial time” for the club. The Toffees are struggling financially, as they posted a loss of more than £100m for the third successive year [The Guardian].

Survival key
While the news will bring immense relief to the Everton camp, it shows once again why staying in the Premier League is absolutely vital for the club.
The Toffees are struggling badly in the Premier League, sitting in the 17th position, and it would be a catastrophe if they go down this season.
It also gives an indication that the club needs a wholesome change in approach in the summer transfer window.

Frank Lampard, if he stays on, needs to sign quality players of his own choice. At the same time, players who are not performing to the expected level should be shown the door.
They may have to remain content with losses on some of the players but that’s the only way they can create space and free up wages to add fresh new faces.
While the new stadium project should now take a concrete shape, the team must ensure they leave no stone unturned to stay up.
