Jose Enrique sneers at Neil Warnock’s comments that Everton’s Dele Alli would fit at Liverpool
Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has ridiculed the suggestion that Everton midfielder Dele Alli would be good enough to play for Liverpool.
Neil Warnock recently told Sky Sports, via HITC, he felt sorry for the January signing because the Toffees are “not good enough” and were he playing for one of the Premier League top two he would be “a hell of a player”.
The midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Goodison so far, and manager Frank Lampard has been increasingly overlooking him for selection.
Former Reds full-back Enrique rubbished Warnocks suggestion, posting on his personal Twitter account: “Do you reckon Jurgen [Klopp] could get anything out of the Dele alli? [sic] Warnock claims Everton star on only 169 minutes with Blues would be good fit for Liverpool.”
He then followed up with another message, complete with a number of embarrassed emojis: “To be honest I don’t know what he is talking about.doesnt play for tottenham. Don’t play for Everton that’s is fighting to don’t be relegated and he is a good fit for Liverpool?”
Piling on
Clearly there is a power imbalance between the two Merseyside rivals currently, with the two clubs operating at opposite ends of the table.
Toffees fans won’t appreciate ex-Anfield figures rubbing their noses in it, and it is frankly a bit weird that Dele is being used as the conduit for it.
The recently-retired 73-year-old manager Warnock was probably for once trying to give a bit of a sympathetic perspective on the former Spurs man.

He is usually being trashed from all angles for things inside and outside of his control, but at least this was football related and not unnecessarily critical.
But it seems fairly unlikely that Klopp or Pep Guardiola are looking at the ex-England star on current form.
And it has instead just invited further derision from Enrique, and no doubt other Manchester City and Liverpool fans.
Unless the reason Dele is being left on the bench constantly is all part of a long-term plan to not trigger payments to Tottenham until he is up to speed then it looks like the move hasn’t really worked yet.
If he is still at the club next season, there will need to be a major shift in his fortunes or he likely won’t be long as a Toffee.
In other Everton news, Ruud Gullit has branded another January signing as a “stupid choice” and complained about the quality along similar lines as Warnock.
