Sky Sports pundit almost lost for words at what he has seen Everton do
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
The change in quality of the Everton performances between the Burnley and Manchester United games have left Kevin Campbell almost lost for words.
A dismal late defeat at Turf Moor, where the team’s twin weaknesses of appalling away form and terrible defending struck to see them go down 3-2 to a relegation rival, was followed up by a creditable 1-0 home win over Europe-chasing United.
Despite being thankful for the improvement Sky Sports pundit Campbell was left in disbelief at the swing from one game to another.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said sarcastically: “It’s easy. Don’t you know how to work this one out? It’s because they are so consistently inconsistent.
“Let’s be truthful here. Everton’s defending against Burnley was schoolboy stuff. If schoolboys were doing that you’d be like, ‘What are you doing?’
“And that was a Premier League team defending like that. [Then] they play Manchester United, and they defend properly, and get a clean sheet.
“You tell me. All of a sudden, is it because they are at home? Is it because it’s Manchester United? Is it because if they’re not on the ball they’ll get embarrassed?
“I don’t know what it is, but the fact of the matter is this goes to show – Newcastle were a form team, kept a clean sheet [against them], Manchester United, not that they were a form team but they’ve got weapons all over the place, kept a clean sheet [against them as well].
“They can do it. They can do it, but the consistency has been…”
After scoffing and struggling to find the words, he continued while laughing: “…It was a relief when the final whistle went I tell you.
“It really was a relief. And I was so pleased they got that result, but there’s still a long way to go, there’s still games that they’ve got to win.
“Because Norwich did them a favour, a massive favour [beating Burnley], so now there’s that four-point gap again.
“Everton need to kick on now, come on, you know Everton really need to kick on.”

There has been far too much of the Burnley-level performances and nowhere near enough of the Newcastle and Man United ones of late.
But the proof is there that it can be done, so hope will remain until the relegation battle has a result one way or the other.
In light of what the team has shown is possible there is even less excuse for them to go down, so even a bit of positive consistency would help to ensure it is avoided.
In other Everton news, the club are set to make a major announcement on new investors amid financial concern.
