Steven Gerrard names Everton and Goodison Park as most hostile away ground he played at

Steven Gerrard has admitted that Goodison Park was one of the ‘most hostile’ away grounds he ever played at during his days against Everton.

Gerrard is a Liverpool legend and spent the vast majority of his career with the Anfield club, captaining them for several years and as a local lad knows all about the Merseyside rivalry.

While appearing on Gary Neville’s ‘The Overlap‘ series, he was asked to name ‘the most hostile away ground’ he ever played at and Everton’s ground was the first to leave his mouth.

“Goodison [Park] or Old Trafford are certainly up there, because obviously I was a bit of a target which is fine,” he said.

“I played away at Besiktas once, and I think you might’ve played in the game when we played Turkey at the stadium. Probably them, yeah.”

Buzzing

Everton fans are known as some of the best and most passionate in the entire Premier League, and it will undoubtedly stand up against any fan base in Europe too.

If there is any player who never played in the famous blue shirt but can claim to have heard the fans and the stadium at its best and loudest, it’ll be Gerrard.

This type of atmosphere and support is exactly what is needed for the club during the end of this season, and it’s currently the difference between relegation and survival.

Frank Lampard’s record at Goodison Park compared to playing away from home is night and day, and if the team can continue to feed off that energy and win points in their remaining home games they have a huge chance of staying up.

All credit will go to the fans if they can maintain that level of performance at home where they’ve proven they can’t away, and it’ll prove why Goodison Park is one of the best grounds in the country.
