View: Everton must axe injury prone Fabian Delph at end of contract
Everton need to show Fabian Delph the back door once his contract expires at the end of the season despite his promising return from injury.
The 32-year-old slotted back into Frank Lampard’s side against Manchester United on the weekend and played a big part in securing the Blues’ 1-0 at Goodison Park.
The former Manchester City utility man has undeniable qualities that the Toffees could have done with this season but he has been injured – an all too common theme during his time on Merseyside.

According to Transfermarkt Delph has missed over a year (422 days) worth of football since joining the Toffees in 2019 – a truly embarrassing statistic that doesn’t warrant an extension on his current deal that runs out at the end of the season.
Shame
Delph’s tenure at the club has been disappointing, to say the least. He is a serial winner with bags of quality and experience but he hasn’t been able to show it nearly enough for the Blues.
If you forget about injuries, he is arguably Everton’s best midfielder and the several games he has played this season have more than proven that with his performance against the Red Devils brilliant.

Lampard has continuously spoken highly of the Englishman with his footballing philosophy reliant on midfielders who are good on the ball – which the former Leeds United ace is.
With Delph being one of the most senior members in the squad, having a big impact on – when he is fit – and off the pitch as well as being the only recognised defensive midfielder, the Toffees have to be careful not to get rid of him without replacing him first.
They need young promising players in the summer who they can rely on all season long whilst playing a long-term role in Lampard’s project.
It is very unfortunate but the Blues need to cut the deadwood from this squad with the former Aston Villa man being exactly that.
