Major Burnley decision let Everton ‘off the hook’ – Martin Keown
Martin Keown believes that Burnley’s sacking of manager Sean Dyche is a massive boost for Everton in their bid for Premier League survival.
The Blues sit four points above the Clarets in the league in 17th with each team having eight games to play.
The former Arsenal defender eluded the Toffees’ defeat at Turf Moor as a reason not to have sacked Dyche.

Keown told talkSPORT: “I think the timing is a bit out, here. The timing is all wrong.
“Obviously they’ve only have four wins all season, so OK, but you’ve got to look at the games they can win. They’ve got a game against Watford coming up, they’ve four points behind Everton and I know they lost to Norwich, but they beat Everton just a few days before that.
“What can be changed by changing the manager? You’ve had stability for a number of years, you might as well have seen it through. That would have been the honourable thing to do, to let Sean Dyche stay in the role until the end of the season.
He added: “I don’t see Burnley staying up now. I think this decision has let Everton off the hook.”
Nothing changes.
Have Burnley lost their minds? You can understand them wanting to take the club in a new direction after several years under Dyche.
He isn’t exactly the most exciting manager but he has kept them in the Premier League year after year which makes the decision bizarre.

Understandably they have only four games all season but they have stuck with him this long so why not wait for another eight games?
This is brilliant news for Frank Lampard and Everton because the Clarets are most likely going to struggle to leapfrog the Blues now given their current circumstances.
This doesn’t change a thing though. The Toffees have simply have to go out and put as many points on the board as possible.
Teams have evaded greater odds and the Blues can’t afford to allow this development to creep into their heads and take away their edge from now until the end of the season.
