Sky Sports pundit shares Everton situation that would make him leave amid transfer market mess

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell suspects that former Everton director of football Marcel Brands wasn’t allowed to do his job and agrees he would leave in that situation.

The Dutchman stepped down from club in December amid suggestions that he had lost a “power struggle” with former manager Rafael Benitez (Mirror).

Sky pundit Campbell questioned the quality of the playing squad, with the club in a relegation battle, compared to Brands’ reputation, and suspects he could have been undercut at Goodison Park.

The former Toffees forward exclusively told Goodison News: “The key to it all is, Everton haven’t had a plan. I mentioned in a previous column about Marcel Brands. I questioned what the plan was.

“He was some guru who could bring the best players in, which then poses the question, ‘Was he allowed to do his job?’

“You’ve got to ask that. Was he allowed to bring in these good youngsters who Everton could develop to become stars? I don’t know.

“But you know what I do know? If I was there and I wasn’t allowed to do my job, I’d leave. Because my head’s going to be in the news.

“But I think now that they’ve got Frank Lampard, I truly believe this, Frank Lampard knows exactly what he needs to do come the summer.

“The key is keeping Premier League status, and then he’s got to get busy and he’s got to get moving to shape that squad.”

Everton

The club have spent heavily in recent years, but the number of misses outweighs the number of hits.

Owner Farhad Moshiri’s scattergun approach saw him employ the respected Brands, and then apparently ignore what he had to say.

If current manager Lampard has a plan, fans will have to hope it is aligned with others at the club otherwise a similar situation may arise.

In other Everton news, Campbell reacted to the “bulletin board material” that Sean Dyche provided Lampard.
