Richard Keys keeps himself amused with Rafael Benitez dig at Everton after Sean Dyche sacking

Richard Keys has had another dig at Everton following the sacking of Sean Dyche as manager of Burnley on Friday (15 April).

The Clarets boss was removed from his position as longest serving manager in the Premier League following defeat to bottom side Norwich.

Having beaten the Toffees three days before the defeat (6 April), he had brought his side to within a point of Frank Lampard’s men in the relegation battle, but the subsequent loss allowed Anthony Gordon to stretch the gap back to four with the win over Manchester United.

Keys had already enjoyed himself with the suggestion that Sam Allardyce should be drafted in at Turf Moor, writing on his personal Twitter account that it would be a “double whammy” for the ex-Goodison boss to keep Burnley up and send the Toffees down.

He followed that up with a subsequent message referring to another former boss that said: “Same goes for Agent Rafa I guess.”

Like clockwork

Everyone would think something was majorly wrong if the beIN Sports anchor didn’t knee-jerk to tout Big Sam for a job.

And he won’t have done himself any favours with the Goodison faithful with his follow up on Benitez.

The Spaniard was the most unpopular manager at the club in recent memory, due to a combination of his Liverpool history and the poor form on the pitch.

The “Agent Rafa” trope was also deployed by former Reds defender Jose Enrique the other day, to suggest that the relegation battle that Frank Lampard is currently trying to get the club out of was a deliberate plan from the ex-Anfield boss.

For as long as the club are struggling against the drop they are going to be in the firing line for an extra helping of these kind of jokes.

If Lampard can build on the win against United and secure Premier League survival, then fans will be hoping they can start to get out of the mess that has enveloped the club, and become less of a punchline along with it.

In other Everton news, Dyche’s sacking should serve as a warning to the Toffees boss after the pair’s post-match comments.
