Sky pundit doesn’t see Everton signings having success together after ‘nostalgic’ Monday post

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell predicts January signings Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek to have a future in football, but not together at Everton.

Former Spurs midfielder Dele sent a birthday message to his Dutch teammate on Monday (18 April) on his Instagram stories which showed photos of the pair facing off for their previous clubs rather than featuring together for the Toffees.

The lack of available evidence of them at their best for the club suggests the signings have failed, but Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes they can come good, just not until at least next season when he expects the Manchester United loanee to have returned to Old Trafford.

He agreed he expected them to be playing together at the club when he spoke exclusively to Goodison News, saying: “Yeah but whether it’s injuries or illness or whatever – health, they’re not.

“They’re looking back at yesteryear [with the Instagram post], but they’ve still got a lot of football left in them.

“It isn’t ideal for them at the moment, that’s right.

“But listen, I think Dele Alli needs a pre-season with Everton under Frank Lampard.

“Donny van de Beek obviously at the end of the season is going to go back to Manchester United, and we are going to go and see from there.

“It’s going to be an interesting one, what happens, but I think that’s just a more nostalgic Instagram post from Dele Alli.”

Hopes were high that the previously illustrious pair could recapture the form that saw them come up against each other in a Champions League semi-final three years ago.

But neither has set the world alight on Merseyside, with the ex-England regular unable to force his way into a struggling side.

And with Erik ten Hag taking over in Manchester the former Ajax midfielder van de Beek is now set to rejoin his former manager, and the opportunity for the two midfielders to link up in front of Toffees fans will be gone.

In other Everton news, Lampard declares he has “fallen in love” as he makes impassioned plea to fans.
