Sky Sports pundit suspects bust up at Burnley, predicts Everton impact of Sean Dyche sacking

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Burnley have lost their “main instigator” in the fight for survival but will battle Everton to the end says Kevin Campbell.

The Clarets sacked Sean Dyche after defeat to Norwich which, coupled with the Toffees win over Manchester United a day earlier, re-opened a four-point gap between the two just days after it had closed to one when they met at Turf Moor.

Sky Sports pundit Campbell suspects there was somewhat of a bust up following those results, resulting in an exit for the previously longest-serving Premier League manager, which now makes them a wild card in the relegation battle.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he assessed the impact, saying: “I’m not so sure any more because I think after the Norwich game I think there was probably some words between Sean Dyche and some of the hierarchy there.

“Obviously after beating Everton and then going to Norwich, and seeing Everton beat Manchester United before the game, then you’re expecting a response and Burnley couldn’t respond.

“Maybe some words were spoken, and obviously Sean Dyche will stand his corner won’t he, he’ll stand his ground.

“And not only the fact did he go but Woany [Ian Woan], Stoney [Steve Stone], and Billy Mercer, they all got sacked.

“So that tells you something about what the hierarchy were thinking, ‘We don’t want anything to do with this group at the club any more’.

“So it’s going to be a new dawn for Burnley. They got a point at West Ham, and it was a good point because [Nick] Pope produced a fantastic save at the end, absolutely brilliant save, and that kept them in the running.

“The difference is three points and Everton have got a game in hand but it is what it is. They’ll fight to the end but the main instigator, the manager who plotted their survival so many times, isn’t there so it’s going to be interesting.”

Interestingly Frank Lampard seemed to come out of the double-header in which he lost to Dyche 3-2 at Turf Moor significantly better off.

The now deposed Burnley boss was full of confidence with his comments following the win (6 April), but slipped up against the league’s bottom side four days later.

Lampard on the other hand saw an improved performance knock off the men from Old Trafford, allowing him to remind Dyche that his side hadn’t forgotten how to win, and ultimately also to outlast him.

In other Everton news, Richard Keys doesn’t like what he hears about the Dyche sacking and wants the Toffees to overcome them as a result.
