Everton midfielder Donny van de Beek has sent the Blues a cryptic message on Instagram regarding his future at the club.
With his Erik ten Hag now officially Manchester United’s manager as of next season, the 25-year-old’s former club Ajax shared the news on their Instagram account.
Frank Lampard and the supporters would have been hoping to keep the on-loan midfielder at Goodison Park next season.
However, a reunion with his former boss looks increasingly likely and his liking of the post only adds to the anticipation that he will return to his parent club at the end of the season.
Inevitable
This is a massive shame but something that Everton fans have seen coming for the past several months and have therefore come to terms with.
Van de Beek is undoubtedly a brilliant player, his record speaks for itself. The Netherlands international was a key part of ten Hag’s success with Ajax, winning three major honours and emphatically reaching the Champions League semi-final in 2019.

The versatile midfielders’ clear talent earnt him a move to the Premier League and Manchester United where he completely flopped – to no fault of his own.
The Red Devils didn’t need him and Lampard swooped in and saved him from wasting away on the bench for any longer in January.
Despite not showing his best football at Goodison Park, he is a very talented player who has clearly grown during his time on Merseyside which makes it a shame he will most likely be on his way back down the M62 in the summer.
United don’t deserve him, they are just very lucky he has a brilliant relationship with their new manager. Hopefully, the Toffees can find a replacement just as good as him if not better in the transfer window.
In other Everton news, the Blues are to axe several senior players in summer for “hungrier” alternatives according to Chris Beesley.
