Big chance for Everton defender Michael Keane to silence his critics v Liverpool

Everton will face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

The away record has been horrendous and there’s very little to get optimistic about this game, considering the form Liverpool are in at the moment.

Having said that, it’s a derby, and fans expect every player to play with pride for the club.

Frank Lampard dropped a hint in the press conference on Friday [Liverpool Echo] that Yerry Mina could be rested for this game.

The towering defender made his return to first-team action in the midweek against Leicester City and Lampard wants to keep him fresh for the rest of the season.

The Colombian hasn’t played two games in a row this season it will be a big risk to throw him in a fixture where tackles will be flying around, and the game will be played at a high intensity.

In that case, Lampard should use Michael Keane ahead of Mason Holgate alongside Ben Godfrey.

Keane is an experienced defender who has previous experience playing in this fixture.

On his day, Keane can be a top-class defender, and therein lies the main problem.

Keane has been very inconsistent this season. There have been times when he lost his composure and concentration.

Kevin Campbell slammed him for being “reckless” against West Ham where he picked up a red card. If the Toffees go down to ten men, they could be certain of a humiliating defeat.

This is a big game for Keane. He needs to show that he can be trusted in big matches. At Anfield, he has a chance to silence his critics and his haters.
