Everton transfer stats since 2015 sends shock message ahead of Liverpool clash

Everton will face Liverpool in the Merseyside derby clash on Sunday in the Premier League.

Both the clubs are moving in different directions. Liverpool are challenging for the title, aiming for the quadruple while the Toffees are fighting for survival.

A shocking transfer stat has emerged, courtesy of The Daily Mail (23 April, printed edition – page 115), that gives a grim indication of why the club find themselves in this situation today.

Farhad Moshiri has been very generous with the money, but a lack of proper structure and scouting network means the money has been wasted.

Since 2015, when Jurgen Klopp took charge at Liverpool, Everton have actually spent more money than their rivals.

The Toffees have spent a staggering £588 million on new players, £28 million more than Liverpool, while their net spend is also high, at £259 million.

In the last five years, the Toffees haven’t finished in the top six, and this time they are struggling badly to avoid the drop.

The Reds signed Mohamed Salah for £35million and he is arguably one of the best wingers in the world at the moment. With the same figure, Everton signed Alex Iwobi, who has turned out to be a major flop for the club.

Another major player for the Reds, Andrew Robertson arrived only for £8million. Everton spent big money on Jean-Philipe Gbamin and Davy Klassen, and both have proved to be disastrous signings for the club.

Moise Kean is another player who was shipped out on loans after just one season, and doubts remain over his long-term future.

With no proper planning, scouting, or solid transfer plans, the Toffees are themselves to blame for this situation. It would need a herculean effort to lift themselves from this mess.

In other Everton news, there are new injury worries for the men’s team as Frank Lampard confirmed two extra players are out ahead of the Merseyside derby.
