BBC duo insist Everton were ‘better’ than Liverpool in Merseyside derby

BBC duo Micah Richards and Jermaine Jenas hailed Everton and their “best player” Anthony Gordon for their performance at Anfield.

The Blues suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Merseyside derby but showed great determination in their efforts to hold Liverpool at bay as they fight for Premier League survival.

Gordon was the spearhead in the Toffees’ attack against Jurgen Klopps’ side with the youngster continuously going from strength to strength this season.

Richards said on Match of the Day 2 “Everton dealt with it better than Liverpool. They almost drew Liverpool out into their way of playing.

“Everton had a clear tactic of the game what they were going to do.

Jenas added: “They have a game plan that frustrated Liverpool.”

He then went on to say: “Anthony Gordon was by far their best player. He has had a fantastic season.”

Scouser.

If Everton had 11 players that played with the same passion and intensity that Gordon does, they would be nowhere near this relegation scrap.

He will most likely get a bad name stick to him after yesterday’s diving antics but he is a class touch on and off the pitch.

The Scouser has shown so much drive to be the best in every single department during his half a season in the Blues’ team and regardless of it being his breakthrough season, you can tell he is a special player.

The only Toffees comparison that can be made is to Wayne Rooney. They both have the added bite in their game that local players often tend to have and the fans love it.

He has almost instantly become a fan favourite at Goodison Park and long may his rise through the ranks continue.

Gordon didn’t cover himself in glory yesterday but these are all things the attacker can learn from. It needs to be remembered he is still very young.
