Everton have held ‘productive talks’ with Brennan Johnson reps for summer deal – report

Everton have held ‘productive talks’ with the representatives of Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson over a summer transfer, according to The Independent.

Johnson was linked with a January move to the Premier League, with West Ham and Leeds among the interested parties, but he opted to stay put at the City Ground.

Now after being crowned the EFL Championship young player of the year, a summer move looks likely with just one year remaining on his contract.

In a new report by Miguel Delaney, Johnson is expected to cost between £20-25m and Brentford have already offered him personal terms in a bid to move ahead of their rivals for his signature.

Newcastle United, Leicester City and Champions League semi-finalists Villarreal are also said to be interested in a deal.

Any deal with Everton is said to depend on whether or not they can secure their Premier League status for next season.

Johnson is a fantastic young prospect who has been described as ‘almost the finished article’ and ‘wonderful‘ by Wales manager Rob Page.

At just 21-years-old he has already represented his country nine times and a move to the Premier League would be a good way to up his level and potentially help him get into the World Cup squad for the end of the year.

Everton

Everton are in big need of bolstering and strengthening their squad in the summer, but what they need and who they can target will differ depending on whether they’re in the top flight or not.

But Johnson is absolutely the type of target that will help the club get back to where it’s supposed to be, because he’s hungry with quality and has a point to prove.

Andros Townsend’s knee injury means he could be in trouble going forward and with the future of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin up in the air too, Johnson would be an excellent addition.
