Donny van de Beek will be free when he leaves Everton and makes Manchester United return – Dimitar Berbatov

A move to Everton was supposed to resurrect Donny van de Beek’s Premier League career but it has anything but and he looks set to return to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-od has made just six appearances for the Toffees since his deadline day loan move in January and has not helped the club move away from the relegation zone.

Manchester United will welcome him back next season with his former manager Erik Ten Hag at the helm and Dimitar Berbatov expects him to find a new lease of life under his previous boss.

“Things haven’t worked out so far at United for Donny Van de Beek, he’s currently on loan at Everton and he will be back at Old Trafford in the summer,” the Bulgarian legend said in his Betfair column.

“He will get a chance to show what he can do and he has worked with Ten Hag before at Ajax, which is always a good thing, having that connection is great when you’re a player. Let’s hope he can resurrect his career at Old Trafford.

For a player, the relationship with the manager is probably the most important thing.

“Van de Beek used to work with Ten Hag and he will know that he trusts him on the pitch, he will be free to explore, take chances, make mistakes and not worry about being substituted if he makes a bad pass.

“When you have that trust you have that freedom on the pitch and it is a great feeling, trust me.”

See you later

You will struggle to find too many Evertonians who are in bits at the prospect of the Dutchman returning to Old Trafford given what we’ve seen of him at Goodison Park this season.

For someone who has led Ajax to a Champions League semi-final, he has really underwhelmed as has his fellow deadline day arrival, Dele Alli.

But we weren’t expecting much from the Englishman because he has shown time and time again how little he has offered Tottenham over the past couple of years but we assumed van de Beek just wasn’t given the chance.

But no, it turns out that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was right about the 25-year-old that is just isn’t good enough to play Premier League football.

Maybe if he stayed in Merseyside for another year he could fire us to a promotion from the Championship but even that might be a bridge too far for him now as he’s been battered from pillar to post in England since he arrived from his homeland.
