Stan Collymore takes swipe at Alex Iwobi as he makes Everton relegation remark
Stan Collymore has taken a massive swipe at Alex Iwobi, suggesting players like him are the reason Everton are in a relegation battle.
Everton dropped into the Premier League’s relegation zone at the weekend after they lost to Liverpool and Burnley won against Wolves.
Ex-Liverpool forward Collymore says it’s now sink or swim time for Frank Lampard and the Blues and he suggests that the manager will be relying more upon players like Anthony Gordon than Iwobi.

“The time of reckoning is here for Frank Lampard and everyone associated with Everton,” Collymore wrote for The Mirror on 26 April [print edition, page 47].
“It’s Chelsea, Leicester and Watford up next in a tough run and, after watching them against Liverpool on Sunday, one thing was clear.
“That is they have 11 Anthony Gordons between now and the end of the season, they will stay up, if they have 11 Alex Iwobis they will go down.”

Iwobi, really?
If there’s one player who Collymore shouldn’t be picking on right now, it’s Iwobi.
The 25-year-old has easily been one of the more impressive players for Everton since Lampard replaced Rafa Benitez.
The ex-Arsenal man has been played in the centre of the midfield in recent weeks and if Collymore had watched our games, he’d have seen a player doing very well despite being played out of his comfort zone.
Sure, Iwobi’s made some mistakes and had some horrible games. But he’s no worse than all of his teammates and he’s certainly done a better job lately than some of them.
Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Why’s Collymore not digging out these individuals for their pathetic performances recently?
We get the point he’s making about Gordon and he’s absolutely right.
But he’s gone after the wrong player completely in Iwobi, who’s played a big part in us not being out of the survival race completely.
