Tony Cottee shares Everton survival chances after ‘fantastic’ Chelsea win

Tony Cottee has hailed “fantastic” Everton on social media following their win against Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday [May 1].

The Blues beat the European Champions 1-0 thanks to a Richarlison strike after he stole the ball from Cezar Azpilicueta in the 46th minute of the game.

Frank Lampard’s side remains in the bottom free but can lift themselves to 16th place should they win their game in hand on Leeds and Burnley.

Cottee said on Twitter: “What a fantastic result for Everton.

“This really gives them a chance of staying up, so pleased for everyone connected with the club. Great performance.”

Crucial.

That was exactly the result Everton needed after the weekend of football that had already unfolded ahead of kick-off on Sunday.

Burnley piled even more pressure on the Toffees with their win away at Watford and Leeds presented a glimmer of hope after they were swept away by Manchester City.

Jesse Marsch’s team put in a hugely encouraging performance that would have left the Blues fans very nervous – given the form that Burnley are in too.

However, Lampard and the players pulled it out of the bag when they had to, something they are beginning to make a habit of and long may it continue.

Of course, they would have liked to have beaten Burnley away but come to the end of the season when they do survive – the Manchester United, Chelsea and whatever brilliant games are to come will be great memories.

Memories that Lampard can use along with the fans to unite this club once more and kick on from a terrible season.
