Alan Shearer names Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in team of the week
Alan Shearer has named Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in his team of the week, and says his save against Chelsea was the ‘save of the season’.
Pickford was man of the match as the Toffees earned a huge three points in a 1-0 win over Chelsea to keep them in touching distance of Burnley and Leeds in the battle against relegation.
That game included a stunning save to deny Cesar Azpilicueta in the second half and Shearer said his performance was ‘extraordinary’ while naming him in his Premier League team of the week.
“A hero in goal,” he said.
“Extraordinary. Made a string of stunning stops to secure the vital win over Chelsea, including a contender for save of the season.”
It was a save that has been praised by everyone in the media, and Seamus Coleman’s reaction on the pitch as it happened said everything you need to know about what it did for the team.
Huge
Pickford has been one constant in this Everton side that has consistently put in performances to be proud of despite the poor results so far this season.
He has been a vocal leader in the back line while making countless saves to keep his side in the game at various points across the season.

There is only so much he is capable of doing on his own however and the defence has let him down on multiple occasions. But he has never given up.
That fight and desire to stay in the Premier League as a Toffee is exactly why fans absolutely love him and want to see him at the club for the long term.
If they get relegated he will surely leave with his international place for England up for grabs, but it will be with a heavy heart and fans will be gutted to see him exit because he’s done everything the fans could possibly ask from him.
