Peter Schmeichel names Everton’s Goodison Park ‘incredible’ venue

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has revealed that his favourite ground during his playing days was Goodison Park.

The 58-year-old, when asked about his favourite venue during his playing days while talking to a YouTube channel Football Daily, named the home ground of the Toffees.

“I think the best atmosphere and I always love to go there because it was my first away game as well was Goodison Park,” said Schmeichel.

“Incredible, incredible. It was also my first away game and we draw them. I think we were in the FA Cup and in the League Cup against them.

“It was what I really, really wanted. To get to play at these stadiums and that was the first one and I was like ‘woah. This is what I really wanted to do’.”

Schmeichel is not the first big name to make those claims about playing the Goodison Park. Previously, a lot of other ex-players have also talked about how intimidating of an atmosphere it is when Everton play there in front of nearly 40,000 supporters.

The venue was established back in 1892 and since then it has been the home of the Everton football club.

The Goodison Park-faithful have played a key part in reviving the club’s fortunes in the ongoing campaign, especially in the match against Chelsea where the side secured an unlikely win and kept their hopes of alive of keeping their place in the Premier League.

As things stand, the Toffees are placed in the 16th position on the points table with 36 points after 35 matches, two ahead of 18th-placed Leeds United.

Frank Lampard and his players will be hoping to see the fans turn up once again and support his team like a 12th man when they will face off Brentford on Sunday.
