Everton spend per point should leave Farhad Moshiri embarrassed
It’s no secret that the 2021-22 season has not gone how anyone at Everton had been hoping for and they are now fighting to save their Premier League status.
The Toffees can secure that safety with one game in hand on Thursday (19 May) if they manage to beat Crystal Palace at Goodison Park with Leeds United being unable to reach their points total if they do so.
But given the money Farhad Moshiri is put into the playing squad and the lack of repayment of that on the pitch, it still won’t be a reason to celebrate if we managed to stay up.
The Liverpool Echo’s business of football writer, Dave Powell, shared a graph on Twitter of the amount of money spent per point gained in the Premier League this season and it makes for remarkable reading from an Everton perspective.
The Toffees have spent £12.5million for every point they have picked up in England’s top-flight this season which puts them third in the list of biggest underachievers alongside Manchester United (£16.9million) and Chelsea (£13.7million).
No matter which way you try to twist this graph, the facts don’t lie and Moshiri has pumped all this money into the side and not seen any reward from it whatsoever.

When you consider teams like West Ham United (£4.6million per point) and Brentford (£1.5million) are both overachieving to great extents in the same transfer market, you have to question of the right people are in charge of operations.
If Lampard can mastermind the club to safety this season, they have to be smarter in who they buy and sell and for what price because they cannot afford to be this high on the underachiever’s list again this time next year.
In other Everton news, Patrick Vieira will be without four of his senior players for Crystal Palace’s trip to Goodison on Thursday.
