‘Something not right’ – Sylvain Distin gives damning verdict of Everton season
Former Everton centre-back Sylvain Distin believes that something is not right with the Toffees as they are in the midst of an intense relegation battle.
The Merseyside club are currently placed in the 16th position of the league table with just two matchdays to go.
Distin, who spent six seasons at Goodison Park, while talking with TalkSPORT, admitted that it is hard for him to watch the events unfolding with his former club.

“When the season started and with the players they signed, the investment they got, the new stadium coming, I really felt ‘here we go’, that’s it, Everton’s going to possibly move to another level,” he said.
“Now, we are talking about avoiding relegation. What I meant was that they would possibly break into that Champions League spot.
“It’s not enjoyable for me to watch; it’s stressful even if there’s not as many players as I played with right now.
“But still, it’s a club that I really care about and I really had a fantastic time, so it’s not enjoyable to see them in this position.
“And to be honest with you I don’t understand it, either, considering the investment and everything. There is something not right.”

Everton’s downfall
Since the start of the season, Everton have struggled on all fronts, especially under the management of Rafa Benitez who joined the club in the summer replacing Carlo Ancelotti who moved to Real Madrid.
Under his management, the Toffees played 22 games across all competitions, winning only seven and suffering defeats in 11 games whereas four fixtures ended in a stalemate.
Benitez’s era came to an end in January earlier this year following a 2-1 defeat at Norwich and the club was sitting 15th in the league.
The appointment of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard in a managerial role did not produce an effective response, something which was expected, as the Blues are currently sitting just one point ahead of 17th-placed Burnley and two more than 18th-placed Leeds United with just two games to go.
Next up for Everton is their final game of the season at the Goodison Park against Crystal Palace and the fans will be hoping that the players will put their best performance on display and secure a season-saving triumph.
