Oliver Holt says Patrick Vieira shouldn’t be punished for assault at Everton
Chief sports writer for The Mail on Sunday Oliver Holt believes that Patrick Vieira should not be punished for his attack on an Everton fan on Thursday [May 19] night.
Frank Lampard’s side completed an emphatic second-half comeback to win 3-2 and ensure their Premier League status for next season.
Fans burst onto the pitch to celebrate – one supporter taunted Viera which resulted in the Eagles boss lashing out.
Holt said on Twitter: “I’m astonished there’s any suggestion Patrick Vieira should be in trouble for what happened this evening.
“After what happened to Billy Sharp, how can we allow our players and managers to be subjected to this kind of taunting and placed in harm’s way night after night?”
Elation.
In what world would Vieira not get punished for kicking a fan to the ground?
It doesn’t matter what your opinion is on pitch invasions – he is a professional and being taunted by a fan is not an excuse to assault them.

It wouldn’t be okay out on the street so why is it acceptable in a stadium? He needs to be punished.
That certainly won’t overshadow the Toffees’ night though and what a night it was.
At half-time, it looked to be going all the way to the final day of the season but the players showed brilliant fight to come back and win 3-2.
You could see on the supporters’ faces just how much it meant to them. For a while now the club has been in a toxic mess and being on the brink of relegation was certainly rock bottom for the Blues.
Hopefully, Lampard and these players can build on this momentum as the club unites once again next season when the expectation will be a little bit higher.
