Sky pundit outraged as Steven Gerrard escapes charge where Everton boss Frank Lampard didn’t

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell can’t believe Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard escaped punishment where Everton boss Frank Lampard didn’t.

The Toffees boss was hit by an FA charge following his comments about Stuart Attwell’s refereeing performance in the Merseyside derby, saying that Mo Salah would have been awarded the penalty that Anthony Gordon was denied (Liverpool Echo).

Subsequently the Villain’s manager insisted he wanted Jon Moss’ performance in his own side’s defeat to Liverpool looked at and that it was “good” that the referee was about to retire, yet the FA let it go (Birmingham Mail) and Sky Sports pundit Campbell is so annoyed he even feels like he would get himself in trouble to talk about it.

“All we ask for is consistency,” he told Goodison News.

“If Frank Lampard is going to get wrapped across the knuckles twice, why shouldn’t Steven Gerrard get wrapped across the knuckles?

“And he said worse than Frank Lampard did, in the scheme of things.

“But again, the FA… or the Premier League… or whoever…” he trailed off with a sigh.

With an exasperated laugh he added: “I don’t even want to talk about it or I’ll end up getting wrapped across the knuckles.

“It’s terrible. It’s terrible.”

Gerrard may have gotten away with it by narrow margins as his words could be claimed to imply something other than what he quite clearly meant.

Lampard on the other hand was understandably frustrated and told it straight at Anfield.

Time after time there has been cause for the Toffees to wonder how they are getting a raw deal from the officials and the authorities but after Thursday (19 May) they should be able to finally not worry about it any more.

In other Everton news, Premier League survival was less than 24 hours old before it was again thrown into question.
