Everton defender Lewis Gibson’s future one to ‘keep an eye on’

Everton defender Lewis Gibson is a player to keep an eye on with the summer transfer window fast approaching, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 21-year-old defender has failed to make an impact in his last two loan spells with injury and indifferent form blighting the defender.

Despite signing a two-and-a-half-year contract in January 2020, the defender has been tipped by the Echo’s Adam Jones to be of interest to other clubs this summer.

Jones wrote on Thursday [26 May]: “Perhaps he [Gibson] might be one to keep an eye over the course of the transfer window.”

Lampard should have a look

Frank Lampard would be foolish to not assess the 21-year-old in Preseason.

With a change of recruitment policy in the pipeline at Goodison, a young asset like Gibson fits the type of player Lampard will be looking to develop and increase the value of.

Gibson has been unfortunate with injuries and a club like Sheffield Wednesday is an unrelenting place for young players to make a significant impact on proceedings.

What is promising for the Goodison faithful is the news that there will be a reassessment of how the Merseyside club recruit players.

For too long the Toffees have relied upon high-earners on big contracts who are well past their best and have no sell-on value.

Lampard will be looking to recruit a younger mould of player, perhaps from the Championship, who he can develop and increase the value of, to help make Everton a more sustainably run club.

A big summer awaits.
