John Barnes says Everton overhaul will be forced not chosen in summer
John Barnes has insisted that Everton will find it hard to replace the better players in their squad, should they wish to leave in the summer transfer window.
The Blues are set to undergo a rebuild under Frank Lampard having secured their Premier League status in the penultimate game of the season.
With Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin amongst the big names that could leave Goodison Park ahead of next season, the former Liverpool winger believes the overhaul will be forced upon the Toffees rather than by choice.
Barnes told William Hill: “Everton may need an overhaul but not because their players may leave who they will want to leave.
“Because if Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison goes, these are players that they don’t want to get rid of but it looks as if they could go – so the overhaul is really enforced on them.
He added: “Everton will find it difficult to get better players than the ones who may leave.”
Please no.
It would be an absolute disaster if Everton’s best players in the squad all ditched them after they worked so, so hard in earning Premier League football for next year.
There are a handful of players that deserve to be in the squad and they have all been linked with moves away in the summer.

Hopefully, the rumours were just surfacing whilst they looked their topflight status was uncertain but now they have survived they will stop.
Even if they do leave, the fee the Blues will be able to demand for their stars will likely put most suitors off but if it doesn’t that will mean a lot more money going in Farhad Moshiri’s pocket.
Money that will surely go to Lampard’s transfer kitty as he looks to stamp his mark on the squad.
With that being said, the Toffees would be much better off cutting all of the deadwood – and there is a lot of it – from their squad to make room for better players whilst keeping hold of their top performers.
