Former agent Mario Mauri provides major update regarding Yerry Mina future with Everton

The former agent of Everton defender Yerry Mina, Mario Mauri believes that the veteran defender can extend his contract at the club.

The Colombia international is now entering the final year of his contract with the Liverpool-based club.

Mauri, while talking to L’Interista, revealed that his former client wants to play in Italy but can extend his contract with the Toffees where he has seen immense growth.

“Since he [Mina] went to Everton, he is represented by a different agency,” he said. “He got on very well at the Toffees, English football suits him well.

“I don’t know if at this moment he is willing to leave the Premier League, where he is very well known and respected.

“At Everton, he grew a lot. I think it is possible for him to be renewed, even though he always wanted to come to Italy, so I think he would evaluate any offers. But that’s my opinion.”

Injury prone

Due to multiple injuries, particularly his hamstring, Mina served most of his time at Everton on the sidelines last season.

He only made 14 appearances all season with less than 1000 minutes of football under his belt.

Considering his injury problems, Everton might be keen on offloading him in order to secure the services of a more reliable defender in the summer transfer window.

The Columbian is in the last year of his contract which is why selling him now would be more beneficial for Everton rather than losing him for free next season. However, Mina’s high wages could be a hurdle during negotiations with other clubs.

Everton, who barely escaped relegation, were found wanting at the back last season which is why it is imperative that they bring in some quality defenders rather than relying on injury-prone players.

Mina joined the club from Spanish outfit FC Barcelona in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth £27.23 million.
