Carlo Ancelotti’s message to Everton after Champions League final victory

Carlo Ancelotti believes Everton fans will be “happy now” after his Real Madrid side secured a 14th Champions League title against Liverpool.

Los Blancos continued their remarkable record in Europe’s premier competition courtesy of a Vinícius goal in the 59th minute.

The defeat means Liverpool will have to settle for a cup double this season and the former Everton boss had a message for the Toffees after the final.

As quoted by The Independents Miguel Delaney after the final (28 May), Ancelotti said: “Everton weren’t happy when I left, but I’m sure they’re happy now.”

Elite manager

Ancelotti’s departure from Everton was a tough one to take for the Goodison faithful.

Losing one of Europe’s best managers will always hurt, especially when his replacement is Rafael Benítez.

However, you cannot begrudge the Italian for making the move back to Madrid after the season the European giants have had.

Ancelotti’s tactical mastery has been one of the main reasons for Madrid’s Champions League success.

It was a surprise that Ancelloti took the Everton job in the first place, considering his previous roles in European football.

Everton’s managerial appointments of recent years haven’t been consistent.

Going from an elite coach in Ancelotti to a declining coach in Benitez and then to a younger coach in Lampard.

It is time for the Toffees to be consistent in their appointments and stick to a recruitment policy.

Even if it doesn’t work out for Frank Lampard at Goodison Park, their next appointment should be a manager in the same mould.

Keeping consistency at the club could bring some success long-term.
