Everton should not sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet

Everton are considering a move for La Liga outfit Barcelona’s veteran cetre-back Clement Lenglet, according to Spanish media outlet Sport.

The Toffees manager Frank Lampard is keen on making defensive reinforcements after the Liverpool-based club conceded 66 goals in 38 Premier League games during the last campaign.

Considering the financial condition of Barcelona, the Catalans are expected to make a number of sales this summer and Lenglet could be one of the names on the selling list.

The French defender is having a difficult time in the recent past where he has lost his place in the starting XI.

Lenglet has joined the Catalan-based club in the summer of 2018 from Sevilla in a deal wroth £32.31 million.

Everton

Not the ideal move

It truly is remarkable that a player who was considered to be one of the best defenders in La Liga can become so low on confidence in such a short space of time.

It was only three seasons ago when Lenglet was voted as the best Barcelona player of the season after Lionel Messi.

Now, he has seen a number of Barcelona academy players take his position in the center of defense.

The former Sevilla defender made only 21 appearances in the recent concluded La Liga season, which is extremely low for an established player. Furthermore, he only had a rating of 6.30 across the entire La Liga season.

If we look into his ability, the 26-year-old only made 0.6 interceptions per match and 1 tackle per match.

If Everton thinks that he can revive his form in a side that already has its own defensive problems in the last few seasons, they are mistaken.
