Everton must avoid signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon

Everton have been linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon in the summer transfer window, according to Tuttosport.

Frank Lampard wants to bring instant changes to a side that barely escaped relegation in the recently concluded Premier League season. He believes the reinforcements on the wings are one of Everton’s biggest priorities this summer.

The Israel international usually plays on the left wing, a position currently occupied by Richarlison. However, considering that Brazilian’s future is itself under a cloud, Lampard is having a proactive approach with his wing options.

If the Toffees bring him to the club, he will be the first Israel player since Yossi Benayoun to play in the English Premier League.

Not the right move

Solomon had 16 appearances in the Ukrainian League in the 2021-22 season, scoring four goals and providing one assist. He played more than 50% of the minutes for Shakhtar Donetsk in the recently concluded season.

Despite his brilliant form in the domestic competition, Everton shouldn’t make the mistake of buying Solomon in the summer.

The Toffees already have established wingers in the side, such as Richarlison, Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend, and Anthony Gordon. Despite the speculation surrounding Richarlison’s future, the Toffees still have cover in this position.

Therefore, they should consider investing in other areas which were the cause of concern in the previous campaign, for instance, the squad depth and defensive unit.

Another reason for not making a move is that Solomon will be coming after having good numbers in a league which cannot be compared with the physicality in the Premier League, something which was visible when Bernard joined the Liverpool-based club from the same side in the summer of 2018 as a free agent.

They cannot make that mistake again.

In other Everton news, a £170million development looks like it will make the Toffees wait in the pursuit of a key target.
