Lucas Digne takes another dig at former Everton manager Rafa Benitez
Lucas Digne has criticised former Everton manager Rafa Benitez for playing ‘stone-aged’ football during his time at the Goodison Park.
The French international had a horrid time under the former Toffees manager and he joined Aston Villa in the January transfer window.
Digne, while talking to Football Transfers, criticised Benitez indirectly by claiming that he is happy to be at a club where the manager is eager to play fast-flowing football.

“Steven Gerrard is a fantastic professional and is doing great things for Villa. I want to be part of his project and plans” he said. “It is good to be at the club where I can play fast-flowing football rather than stone-aged football.
“It is important for the players and the fans to have a bond based on good football. After securing the move, I can officially say that I love this sport again.”

Digne and Benitez’s bitter relationship was a chapter everyone at Everton would want to forget as soon as possible.
Not only did the toxic environment mean that the star left-back eventually left the club in a £25 million worth deal in January and joined their rivals Villa but also it impacted Everton’s overall performance under the management of the former Champions League-winning coach.
Ever since moving to Villa, Digne has found himself going once again and made 16 appearances for his current club across all competitions, providing four assists.
During his time at the Liverpool-based club, the 28-year-old, who moved from Spanish club FC Barcelona in a deal worth £18.18 million in the summer of 2018, made 127 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing 20 assists.
His best time came under Carlo Ancelotti where he enjoyed a rating of 7.11 across two seasons at the Goodison Park.
